Early Life and Family Background

Nirmala Sitharaman was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to a Tamil Iyengar family. Her mother-in-law, Savitri, was a Congress MLA in Andhra Pradesh, while her father-in-law held a ministerial position. Despite her family's political connections, Sitharaman's father, Narayanan Sitaraman, was an Indian Railways employee.

Education and Career Path

Sitharaman received her schooling from Sacred Heart. After graduating, she briefly worked as a sales representative for a pharmaceutical company before pursuing a career in politics. She holds a master's degree in economics and international relations from the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
